Are fake nails good for me and the planet?

Can you imagine getting your fake nails done and actually knowing what are you applying on your natural nails and skin? Have you ever wondered what kind of nail glue, gel, acrylic, nail polish and so on is your manicurist applying on your nails? What all of that is made from? Is it made of ingredients harmful to you or the planet? Or, perhaps how are they disposing the waste afterwards?

Perhaps you haven't thought of all this before, but most likely - your salon manicure is probably not the cleanest and safest solution out there.

But this is all behind us now, because you can have full control over your manicure that looks good and makes you feel good too!

Simply put our false nails are GOOD FOR YOU AND THE PLANET.

Let's deep dive into good for you;

We got rid of all the nailcare nasties. Our products are backed by science & tested for skin sensitivity. We review each ingredient to bring you the safest & cleanest formulas. Obivously, we're PETA certified vegan and cruelty-free.

Full disclosure, these are the ingredients used in the glue in kitchen language:

Cyanoacrylate: A medical-grade adhesive – our superglue that makes your manicure last.

Polymethyl Methacylate: Acrylic Glass – often used in medical devices and dentist applications known for quick bonding at room temperature.

BHA: Used widely in cosmetic industry due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

& they are good for the planet too:

Yesss, you heard it well! We are the first ever press on nails brand to introduce artificial nails made from 94% PCR (post-consumer recycled) resin.

PCR resin (aka post-consumer-recycled plastic) is helping to reduce plastic waste that ends in the landfills, and it is also reducing the need for producing new materials therefore reducing the need of producing more fossil fuels to manufacture virgin plastic.

Simply put our nails are made from waste that you recycle, such as telephone handsets, rigid luggage, domestic appliance housings (food mixers), electroplated parts, radiator grills, handles, computer housings - anything that requires high-density, durable plastic housing.

Press-on nails made from PCR reisin are just as high-quality and durable as their virgin plastic counterparts -  with less environmental impact. Looking good was never felt so good.

We introduced the PCR reisin in our press-on nails as of the end of 2021, all our collections going forward will be made from recycled PCR reisin.

And we are not stopping here, our nail trays are also made from 96% re-cycled PET plastic - and going forward we are looking to reduce our plastic footprint even further by evaluating a range of bio-plastics and other materials.

How to dispose your LÓA NAILS?

At LÓA NAILS we are trying our best to deliver best possible experience and sustainable solutions. We are not perfect, but we are committed year after year to further reduce our footprint by developing better packaging solutions and working with responsibly sourced materials.

Disclaimer: We work to provide our customers with accurate guidelines on packaging recyclability, however, please ensure that your city or municipal program is consulted before recycling an item.

PET trays are recyclable through the majority of local curbside recycling programs.

Coated carton boxes are widely recyclable through local curbside recycling programs.

Full disclosure, nail glue and press-on nails are too small to be re-cycled (any products smaller than 5cm technically cannot be recycled). Please dispose the glue and the used nails into household bin.

PRO TIP: PRESS-ON NAILS ARE ALSO REUSABLE
LÓA nails are made of high quality materials therefore you can reuse them with short wear up to 5 times with ease. Also don't forget to save the extra unused nails for next mix & match mani.

Re-application instructions:
1. Remove the excess glue from the bottom of the LÓA nail and your natural nails using the nail file.
2. Disinfect your natural as well as the LÓA nail.
3. Follow the application steps for Long or Short Wear.

The verdict is - false nails can be made of recycled materials (we're first brand to transparently use PCR plastic), can be reused up to 5 times and finally - you need to dispose them safely in your household bin to ensure they are properly processed at landfill.
